Tired of coloring your hair and having to keep up with the maintenance? Want to go for a more natural look and save money in the salon? What better shade of hair color is there than the one that grows right from your own roots? After all, it was picked out by your genes, just like the color of your eyes and skin. Follow these steps and you will be on your way to having an effortlessly gorgeous head of hair. Continue Reading after the cut...

1. Get a haircut. Get the dyed parts of your hair cut off as much as possible or at least have it as short as you can bear with. Short hair is the best way to speed up the waiting process when growing out your natural hair color as there are many trendy styles to choose from. If you prefer longer hair, you can always go for regular monthly trims and slowly work your way as your roots grow out. Keep in mind as general rule thumb, that the longer your hair is to begin with, the longer it will take for you to see any noticeable results. It is completely up to you, depending on your patience and style preference.

2. Color your hair one last time. You can skip this step and proceed to Step #3 if you no longer have any dyed hair left on your head after Step #1. Otherwise, recolor the remaining dyed pieces a shade that is closets to your natural color as possible. If you just recently colored your hair, it would be a good idea to let your roots grow at least one inch before doing so. This way, it will make it easier for you to determine the right shade to match your roots. If you are having trouble with this, a professional colorist in a salon will be able to help. Boxed kits in the haircare isle of your local drugstore are convenient for those who are on a tight budget. There is also the option to go for the Ombre look, which is a style that has became quite popular nowadays.

3. Invest in the right products for your hair type. Just because you aren't coloring your hair anymore doesn't mean that you should neglect it with harsh shampoos and certain products that you don't necessarily need. Even normal hair needs special care in order for it to look it's best. A good quality shampoo and conditioner should be the two staple products in any haircare routine. This doesn't mean that only the expensive brands are the best quality. Brands such as Aussie, Herbal Essences, Dove, Sunsilk, Garnier Fructis, and Loreal have also gained a good reputation. Baby shampoo is very inexpensive and excellent for all hair types including permed. Since it is gentle enough to use on a baby's hair, it will also be gentle enough to use on yours. You may skip the conditioner if your hair is oily. Conditioner also makes an instant hair detangler when mixed with water in a spray bottle.

4. Go easy on the shampoo. The shampoo that is sitting in our shower can also be a main culprit of dry damaged hair. Contrary to the popular belief, it is not good or even necessary to wash your hair everyday, especially if your hair is chemically treated. Doing this dries out the scalp, keeping your hair from growing properly. A good wash every other day is all you really need. Try to go without washing for at least four days. If your hair feels a little greasy before then, try using a dry shampoo. If you don't have one then mix some cornstarch with baking soda, sprinkle it on your roots and top part of your hair, and then brush it thoroughly. If you feel the need to use dry shampoo after the third time, then it would be a good time to wash it. Diluting your shampoo with enough water to create a light sudsy mixture is a great way to clean your hair without completely drying it out. Doing this also conserves on the amount of shampoo that is being used and saves money in the long run.

5. Get plenty of exercise. Exercising has many benefits for the human body such as maintaining body weight and improving overall health. But did you know that it can also help make hair grow faster? Exercising causes the heart to pump faster, circulating blood flow throughout the whole body including the scalp, resulting in faster hair growth. So what are you waiting for? Put your sneakers on and go for a jog or a long walk in the park. Learn a new dance, try yoga, or jump on your trampoline. You can also pick up strength training. Find a routine that works for you and stick with it and you you will notice the results from your hair and body.

6. Work with what you have. Do not fight against the natural texture of your hair. Doing so with heat stylers will cause damage and possibly breakage. With that being said, avoid heat stylers at all costs such as flat irons, blow dryers, and curling irons. There are many ways to have fun with your hair without using these things. If you have curls, soften or enhance them with a special product that is made specifically for them. If you want waves or curls, hair rollers are very inexpensive and a lot less damaging. Or you can use a special spray that creates them when you scrunch your hair. Wearing your hair in a high ponytail before going to bed and taking it out in the morning creates volume. Feel free to experiment, find out what works for you, and have fun with your hair while you are waiting for it to grow out.
