How Did You Meet?
the bride, Mercy
We actually met through my sister, 3 years ago. He used to see my pictures on her dp (display picture) and kept disturbing her that he wanted to be my friendlol. Long and short of it, we finally became friends but lost contact for about a year afterwards ’cause I had to go further my studies abroad, while he had to travel back to the states. All this while, we had not seen physically, just phone and Skype calls. I always enjoyed talking to him because he knew how to crack me up. He would call and we would talk for hours on the phone. I remember one time, he took a trip down to the UK to see me. On getting there, I got very busy with school work and couldn’t see him on that trip. He was very disappointed. I felt bad too but at the end of the day, I told myself that i was just testing his love for me lol. Some months later, I had to fly to the states to meet my mum and my sister, who had just had a baby. Again, he flew down to meet us there. He was very supportive and helpful and my mum just took to him the very instant they met (which was very weird to me cus my mum can be funny sometimes lol). And I guess that was where the whole journey began….

The Proposal
It was my graduation week and I was all excited and happy because I had my friends and family around. George flew in 3 days to my grad and I was super excited. According to him, he was very very happy for me, hence he lost his appetite. I found that very very strange because he barely ate any meal, all in the name of excitement. Little did I know that he had something up his sleeves. He had already told my friends and family what he planned on doing later that evening but nobody said anything to me. I didn’t have the slightest clue on what was going on around me lol. Well, we went partying that night and at some point, the music stopped. He got on his knees. His eyes were sincere and deep. He asked me to marry him. I was speechless, confused and dumbfounded. I had tears in my eyes and forgot I was meant to give him an answer lol. Then I heard his voice… “Please say something baby..” And of course I screamed YESSSSS.

My advice to other couples: Put God first! Tell Him exactly what you want and He would give you the desires of your heart. Also, be patient with one another. Don’t let a third party into your union, except God. Pre- marriage counseling is very good also because it gives you an insight on the journey you’re embarking on. Communication is very important too. Above all, be best of friends

“I wanted a vey modest wedding dress.something very elegant, detailed and conservative.
I tried so many designers but I just wasn’t impressed. So I stumbled on Timi of I Do Weddings Ng on Instagram, gave her a call, booked an appointment. I told myself I wasn’t gonna search anywhere again in Nigeria if I didn’t see anything I liked.
Lo and behold, I went to see Timi and after looking at a couple of dresses on her rack, I found a dress that tickled my fancy. I tried it on with a veil and a bouquet and I looked awesome. Though it was small for me, we had to order it in my size and then customize it because I wanted some extra embellishments.
I must say, when my dress finally arrived, I was speechless. Not only because it was too beautiful but because it arrived earlier than expected and the fit was just too perfect.”

“As an Edo bride, I wore the traditional bridal attire which comprises of a beaded high bun hairstyle called Eto Okuku, the ivie -uru (beaded necklaces), ivie-ebo (hand beads), emi-ehorivie (earrings), Epa-ivie (beaded clutch), ewu-ivie ( beaded cape). These were adorned with a beautiful teal colored george wrapper.
My groom wore a white t-shirt with the traditional wrapper tied into a knot on one of his shoulders.
We later changed into aso-oke by Vogues aso-oke and our laces were from Kubis fabrics.”
