According to eyewitness accounts, six female suicide bombers stormed the Sajeri suburb of the Bulunkutu area in Maiduguri’s Jere Local Government Area (LGA). The teenage girls headed in different directions and later blew themselves up.
Mallam Saidu Modu, who narrowly escaped the second suicide attack, recalled how the teens killed four people near his house.
''I saw a girl of 10 years old coming towards people sitting under a tree in front of my house. I was going to join other people for evening prayer at Mosque when suddenly I heard loud explosions. I fell on the ground. After five minutes I saw 6 dead people including children and 5 others injured,'' Saidu told Bloom Gist
The village head of Sajeri Kadi Babagana confirmed that more than 20 civilians were killed by six female bombers, suspected to be Boko Haram militants, in his district yesterday evening.
''I believe they were sent to kill my people because one of the teens went after the Vigilante Commander in Sajeri. I wonder how she knew his house. A pregnant woman, 9 children, and more than 45 were injured,'' he said.
A medic at Maiduguri State Specialist Hospital told Bloom Gist that 19 dead bodies were brought into the hospital yesterday, meanwhile 9 injured people had been transferred to UMTH because of their critical condition.
Later on, the Borno State Governor Kashim Shettima visited the blast sites to sympathize with residents. The Governor also urged them to always shut their doors for security because the area is near the bush.
