Barely 48 hours after the Ambassador Aminu Wali-led Anambra State PDP screening committee cleared 13 governorship aspirants and disqualified four others ahead of the... August 24 governorship primary elections in the state, the party is set to unveil the aspirants.
The unveiling will take place in the state capital, Akwa.
Anambra State chairman, Mr. Ken Emeakayi, who disclosed this Thursday, said after the different committees set up by the national office of the party screened the chairmanship and councillorship aspirants for the October 5, local government elections in the state, that the presentation would precede the August 12, ward congress for election of delegates for the August 24, primaries of the party in the state to nominate the party’s candidate for the November 16, governorship election.
Those cleared by the committee and who are expected to be unveiled Friday, are Senator Emma Anosike, Patrick Ugboma, Ambassador Jerry Ugokwe, Nicholas Ukachukwu, Alexander Obegolu, Senator Andy Ubah, Uzor Obinna, Okoye Micheal, Agape Kramer Ifunanayi Chukwu, Josephine Anenih, Akachukwu Nwamkpo, Walter Okeke and Charles Odunekwe.
However, it is not yet clear if those disqualified: Tony Nwoye, Ugochukwu Okeke, Sylvester Okonkwo and Domain Onwuanyi, will also be at the unveiling ceremony.
Ambassador Aminu Wali’s screening committee had said those affected by the disqualification were free to appeal the decision,
Speaking with journalists Emeakayi ruled out the possibility of a consensus candidate since all the party’s aspirants were aware and had agreed that the primaries would be won and lost on the field.
Towards having a hitch-free primaries on August 24, Emeakayi said the party hierarchy had been able to impress it on the aspirants that there would be no manipulation of the process, and in turn, had extracted a commitment from them that once the process was free and transparent, they would abide by the outcome.
