GLASGOW (AFP) – Scottish champions Celtic are set to sign 13-year-old goalkeeper Joshua Rae after beating Liverpool and Everton for his signature.
Rae has yet to make his professional debut for Scottish second-tier side Hamilton Academical, but he is already regarded as one of the brightest goalkeeping prospects in Britain.
The teenager had previously been for trials with Liverpool, Everton, Celtic and Atletico Madrid and was due to return to Anfield for a second spell when the Glasgow giants stepped in to clinch a deal.
Rae, who is already 6ft 1in, made his debut for Hamilton’s Under-20 team on Monday when he played the final six minutes of a 3-1 win over Partick.
That made him the youngest player ever to appear for Hamilton at Under-20 level.
Hamilton director Allan Maitland told BBC Scotland: “His family have decided his future lies with Celtic.
“I am disappointed to lose another player. But I recognise that, as a Celtic supporter, when Celtic come calling, it is hard to resist.
