3 ADORING STYLES THAT WILL MAKE YOU LOOK FASHIONABLE AND OUTSTANDING

Unknown | Saturday, May 16, 2015 |
When you look at as many photos of stylish celebrities and It girls as we do, you start to notice some common threads. Whether it’s the brands they love (Kiini and Maurie & Eve) or the body-slimming tricks they all use, we like to think we’re fairly skilled at sleuthing out the style similarities of the fashion elite. Today, we’re focusing on three universal style tips the coolest fashion girls always rely on.

Avoid looking Matchy-Matchy And One-Coloured Up

To be clear, we’re not saying to avoid monochromatic style or matching sets, which are looks we love. Rather, we’re suggesting reconsidering outfits where you take a color from one of the pieces you’re wearing and let it dictate the rest of your ensemble. Here’s an example of the type of matchy-matchy look we recommend avoiding: a red-and-black floral-print dress paired with a black belt and purse and red pumps. Playing with complementary colors instead of matching ones results in a more nuanced look that feels a bit more advanced. Scroll down to see how some of our favorite stylish celebrities play with color pairings for a fashionable result.

Be A Master of Art Balancing

Not to overwhelm you, dear reader, but there are a multitude of factors to consider when asking yourself if your look is balanced. To start, your outfit should feel balanced in terms of how much skin you’re showing—if you’re showing off your legs, consider covering up on top like Laura Love does. Also, make sure to balance alluring elements—if you’re wearing a sexy lace-up top like Emily Ratajowski's, pair it with a toned-down counterpart such as baggy jeans. Proportion is equally important—when wearing an oversize top, pair it with slimmer-cut pants like Elizabeth Olsen's. You should also take into account balancing trendy pieces with more classic ones and pairing pops of color with neutrals. It may sound like a lot to remember, but essentially if you have one element in your outfit that has a strong aesthetic (examples include an item that is very bright, very trendy, or very loose-fitting), balance it with pieces that neutralize the effect.

DON'T FORGET TO ADD A THIRD PIECE FOR THAT SPECIAL AND OUTSTANDING LOOK

The best outfits have a bit of complexity to them, and one of the easiest ways to ensure your outfit fits the bill is to make sure your look has at least three pieces, not including your shoes. Your pants and top are your first and second pieces, and your third piece is an extra outfit element such as a jacket, blazer, sweater, vest, or statement accessory. Below are some celebrities that always add a third piece.
