The probe panel, chaired by Justice George Omereji, a judge of the State High Court, has 23 terms of references it is expected to investigate including the sale of Omoku 150MW Gas Turbine, Adam 360MW Gas Turbine, Trans-Amadi 136MW Gas Turbine and Eleme 75MW Gas Turbine, the mono rail project and the sale of the Olympia Hotel by the Amaechi-led administration.
Speaking during the event at the Government House, Port Harcourt, Wike said, “In exercising the powers conferred on me by Section 2 (1) of the Commissions of Inquiry Laws of Rivers State, 1999 and all other enabling powers, I, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, hereby constitute and appoint a Judicial Commission of inquiry for the investigation of the administration of Governor Chibuike Amaechi.”
The governor directed the commission to investigate the non-execution of the contract for the construction of the Justice Karibi White Hospital after the Amaechi-led administration paid $250 million to the contractor.
Gov. Wike further directed the commission to investigate the withdrawal and expenditure of the accrued N96 billion from the Rivers State Reserved Fund without compliance with the extant law, and urged them to make appropriate recommendations that would assist the state government recover proceeds from the gas turbines sold by the Amaechi-led administration.
The commission, which has one month to submit its report, also has the mandate to recover funds wrongfully disbursed on the failed Justice Karibi White Hospital, and the funds illegally withdrawn from the state’s reserved fund, among others.
