Two Police Officers Killed as gunmen attacked Ijaw leader

Two policemen were killed yesterday in Bayelsa State when armed kidnappers attempted to abduct Remember Ogbe, the Chairman of Southern Ijaw Local Council of Bayelsa State.


According to Asinim Butswat, the Bayelsa State Command Public Relations Officer (PRO), there was an exchange of gunfire between the kidnappers and police.

According to Butswat, "At about 8pm four daredevil gunmen stormed the residence of the Chairman Southern Ijaw LGA, Hon Remember Ogbe, at Amassoma in Southern Ijaw LGA to abduct him.”

He added that the assailants became “engaged in a gun battle with the policemen attached to the Chairman. The unknown gunmen retreated, but the two police corporals lost their lives due to injuries sustained in the encounter.”

The corpses of the deceased policemen have been deposited at the Federal Medical Centre Mortuary, for autopsy.

Police have intensified efforts to locate and arrest the assailants.
