It would be recalled that last week a Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President, Reuben Abati, shared a scandalous extract from the WikiLeaks document, containing numerous allegations related to
Muhammadu Buhari’s credibility challenged by the documents from the past
The presidential race ahead of the 2015 elections becomes more challenging with every single day. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) picked Goodluck Jonathan to represent the party, while the former military Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), emerged the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate.
Less than 2 months are left before the Nigerians are to make their choice. This period is being marked not only by serious war of words, but also some past data, which become relevant in the course of the current happenings in the country.
Thus, in a WikiLeaks document dating back to 2003, it is contained that Bola Tinubu (Lagos State Governor at that time) urged the Alliance for Democracy to support Olusegun Obasanjo over Buhari.
See the quote from the paper titled “Lagos State Governor’s Views On Iraq, National Elections, And AGOA”
“6. (C) Turning to the presidential contest, Tinubu disclosed that he does not like President Obasanjo because he contributed to the end of democracy in Nigeria during his tenure as a military president and is now benefiting from that history. That said, Tinubu admitted that he and his party, the Alliance for Democracy, must support Obasanjo.
Southwest Nigeria is Yoruba land and the President is Yoruba. Tinubu’s party had no choice since it has not fielded a presidential candidate. Moreover, Obasanjo is the only candidate who stands a chance of blocking his rival, General Muhammadu Buhari, whose ethnocentrism would jeopardize Nigeria’s national unity.
Buhari and his ilk are agents of destabilization who would be far worse than Obasanjo. Tinubu and many other governors are therefore implementing a strategy to re-elect Obasanjo, partly in an effort to prevent Sharia from spreading. Tinubu predicted that the President will follow his own course, if re-elected, since he will not need as many friends the second time around.”

The recent period could be characterized as the season of leaked documents. Yesterday the APC governorship candidate for Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, shared the alleged PDP’s “Plan B” apparently to be used in case of their failure in 2015. The paper contains however neither names nor signatures, therefore its origin cannot be ascertained
