More than 145 people have been killed by Boko Haram terrorists in Borno state in separate attacks carried out this week.

Tuesday night, the terrorists launched a nocturnal attack on two sister villages of Mussaram-1 and Mussaram-II in Monguno local government where they rounded up all the men in the villages and opened fire on them, sources said.

A local vigilante group commander‎ in Monguno town, Maidugu Bida,  told Bloom Gist that “a total number of 48 persons, all males, died on the spot while 17 others escaped with serious injuries”.

A member of the Federal House of Representatives, Tahir Monguno, who represents Monguno/Nganzai/Marte Federal Constituency confirmed the incident.

“We received the sad news (Wednesday) that Boko Haram terrorists had attacked some communities near Monguno,” said Mr. Monguno. “Since their dislodgement from the Sambisa forest, many Boko Haram terrorists have relocated to areas around Monguno where they have been picking on hapless villages and killing residents there.

“On Tuesday, the terrorists attacked the twin villages of Mussaram I and Mussaram II in the night. They went there in the night when the villagers were resting after the day’s fasting and assembled them before opening fire on them.”
Mussaram-I and Mussaram-II, are twin agrarian communities located about 8km away from Monguno town.

Barely 24 hours after the Monguno incident, Boko Haram terrorists attacked Kukawa, a town about 30km away from Monguno.

The gunmen arrived Kukawa at about 7pm when the majority Muslim community were observing the evening prayer, preparatory to breaking their fast.

“They attacked different mosques where most of the residents gathered to observe late evening prayers before going home to properly break their fast,” said a local government official.

“They shot at them while they were in the middle of the prayers and later set the mosques ablaze. Some of the Boko Haram gunmen also attacked houses where children and women were killed.”

The Federal Goverment had described as 'barbaric' the killing of over 145 in Kukawa and Monguno, Borno by Boko Haram and vowed that perpetrators will be brought to justice
