Abuja lawyer asks court to declare Buhari's appointments null and void
An Abuja based lawyer has asked a court to declare all 25 appointments so far made by President Muhammadu Buhari null and void for allegedly violating the federal character principle in the nation’s constitution.

In a suit, in which the chairman of the Federal Character Commission is the second defendant, Dim-Udebuani Marcel asks the Federal High Court to determine whether the appointments violate section 14(3) of 1999 constitution as amended.

In his 23-paragraph affidavit, he wants the court to determine whether the exclusion of the South East geo-political zone in Buhari’s appointments so far is unconstitutional and divisive.

Marcel further asks the court to determine:

Whether there are no qualified and credible or corrupt free persons from the entire South East zone, and

Whether the FCC has in the circumstance of this case discharged its statutory duties under paragraph 8(1), (a), (b) and (c) of the Third Schedule to the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The plaintiff is asking the court for an order compelling Buhari to reverse the appointments so far made to observe and comply with the federal character principle.

Marcel is also seeking an order of the court compelling the FCC to invoke paragraph 8(1) (c) of the Third Schedule to the 1999 constitution nullifying all the appointments.
