Cameroonian Striker Samuel Eto'o |
The Cameroonian star said that the media has failed to give wide coverage to Boko Haram violence.
Recalling that the media and world leaders gathered in France after the Charlie Hebdo shootings in January, the 34-year-old forward said: "It is important for us to talk about it, if we don't do it, who will?"
"We all tried to offer our support [after Charlie Hebdo]. We saw African heads-of-state coming to Paris to offer their support to France. Why, when it comes to Africa -- when it comes to our continent -- don't we do anything? Maybe because the media are not doing what they should do," Eto'o said.
It is reported that the former Barcelona star’s foundation has been given $75,000 as a donation to help the victims of Boko Haram.
Regarded as one of the best African footballers, Samuel Eto'o has played for many well-known European football sides such as Barcelona, Inter Milan and Chelsea.
Eto'o managed to lift the Champions League trophy three times with two different clubs. He won it twice in 2006 and 2009 with Barcelona and claimed it once in 2010 while playing for Inter.
