Security Guard Sentenced for raping minor in Akure

A night security guard in Akure named Onoja Abel, has been sentenced to five years in prison by the Chief Magistrates Court in Akure for raping a teenag girl in the state.

The 32 years old, raped the young girl in September 2015 at his place of work identified as Toyosi Pure Water Compound on High School Road in Akure South Local Government Area (LGA) of Ondo State.

During a court hearing on Monday the Prosecutor, Isah Atanegbe, painted a detailed picture of how the Mr. Abel lured the 9 year old girl (name withheld) into the compound where he raped her.

Mr. Atanegbe, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said the accused committed the offence between the months of September and October 2015. "He had unlawful carnal knowledge of the teenage girl without her consent,” he told the court.

Bloom Gist legal correspondent said that the accused violated sections ‎218 and 360 of the Criminal Laws, Cap 37 Volume 1 of the Ondo State constitution, Nigeria, 2006.

However, the accused pleaded guilty to his offence during the court sitting but faulted some accusations by the prosecutor in the case.

"I only slept with the little girl once and that is the month of September not twice as earlier said by the police. I have regretted my action as I also have a child of 10 years old at home,” he said.

The Presiding Magistrate of the court, ‎Bob-Manuel Victoria, after listening to the accused rapist, sentenced him to five years imprisonment without an option of fine including hard labor.
