Contributors of the respected American media source Fox News mocked the #BringBackOurGirls hashtag campaign, criticizing the viral Twitter phrase over being useless.
It would be recalled that Nigeria in cooperation with the agencies from all over the world are working hard to find and rescue more than 230 abducted by Boko Haram insurgents almost a month ago from Chibok school, Borno State.
The global awareness to the issue was raised by means of the hashtag #BringBackOurGirl, which went viral in the social media. Top politicians and celebrities have joined the campaign showing their support in this hard for Nigerians situation...
However, yesterday "Fox News Sunday" contributors while discussing the topic of "hashtag activism" laughed in a conversation that began with Chris Wallace wondering if the hashtag could actually "make progress" or was rather simply a tool to make people "feel better about themselves".
According to George Will, it is an "an exercise in self-esteem. I do not know how adults stand there, facing a camera, and say, ‘Bring back our girls.’ Are these barbarians in the wilds of Nigeria supposed to check their Twitter accounts and say, ‘Uh oh, Michelle Obama is very cross with us, we better change our behavior’?"
