Sources told Vanguard that the terrorists arrived the market at about 3pm and pretended to be customers after which they opened fire on the traders.
A trader, Mallam Abubakar Ali Monguno, reportedly said:
“When they stormed the market, they shot at my neighbour, before proceeding to other shops as they were much selective in their operations.”A security officer is also said to have confirmed the incident saying:
“Yes, some suspected members of Boko Haram sect launched an attack on Monguno village market killing nine persons and injuring about 10 others currently receiving treatment in one of the treatment centres in the state.
“Already security operatives have been drafted to the scene and normalcy has since been restored in the area.”
